1. RE-ESTABLISH A CONSISTENT ROUTINE
Rehearse this with your child, e.g homework, playtime, brushing teeth + get back into a school sleep schedule.
Practice gentle winding down activities such as bath time & reading before bed to help your child relax.
2. ENCOURAGE INDEPENDANCE
Encourage involvement in back to school activities such as packing school supplies or choosing school outfits.
Involve them in age appropriate tasks such as helping with preparing lunch or cleaning up.
3. TALK ABOUT KINDNESS
Nurture kindness in their daily routine. practice kind words, and smiles + getting used to sharing & waiting turns.
Teach good manners, such as being respectful to others, greeting people properly, & speaking politely.
4. PRACTICE OPENING & CLOSING
Help your child navigate their belongings by practicing accessing their backpack, lunchbox, waterbottle etc.
Familiarize them about what’s in their school bag so they know to ask for it: wash cloth, sun hat, rain coat etc.
5. TALK ABOUT SAFETY
Review outdoor and indoor safety rules, such as washing hands, not touching sharp objects; avoid putting things in their mouths, looking both ways when walking etc.
6. TALK ABOUT FIRST WEEK JITTERS
Reassure your child that being nervous is natural.
Let them express their fears. discuss the scenarios that worry them.
Practice introductions and conversations.
